The Co-Operative Fire Insurance Company of Catskill, New York, was
organized in 1886. The first officers were John H. Bagley, Jr., President;
Omar V. Sage, Secretary; Clarence E. Bloodgood, Attorney and General
Agent. Co-Operative Fire Insurance Company was the first advance premium
company in the State of New York.
For many years
after its organization, the Company’s operations were conducted in a frame
building situated directly on the tidewater portion of the Catskill
Creek.
In 1931 the
Company moved to 302 Main Street in Catskill, New York. It was an
impressive, fire-resistant, steel and masonry edifice solid enough to withstand
an atomic attack. (It had been designated as a bomb shelter in the event
of such an emergency
In 1976 the
Company name was changed to Commercial Mutual Insurance Company, to be more
descriptive of the Company’s operations as they were at that
time.
In December
1998 the Company moved to its present location at 15 Joys Lane, Kingston, New
York.
